LETTER OF CONVOCATION TO IIIth INTERNATIONAL PUPPET´S THEATRE WORKSHOP.

From march 27 to april 10 of 1998 will take place in Matanzas, Cuba, the IIIth Isnternational Puppet´s Theatre Workshop, auspiced by Papalote Group. This meeting, like in preceding editions, have the purpose to stimulate the puppet player interchange between creators from differents latitudes and, in that way to deep in the knowlegge and the confrontation of experiences around the puppet player phenomenom.

The event will propitiate, again, the contact between several tendences, besides have the purpose to extend and enhance with other varying the qualified spaces to theoric reflexion around the tradition and standing of this art to international level. The central motivation to the meeting is, like other times, the impartition of the basics subjects:

- Scenic direction.

- Design and puppet manufacture.

- Dramatic art.

which will be imparted by proffesors René Fernández Santana, Zenén Calero Medina and Freddy Artiles respectively. This three workshop will receive as a novelty the visit of specialists, whether cubans or foreigns, to develop many specials subjects.

At same time to the workshop journeys will take place the theoric event about the subject: "The Puppet Theatre at the presence of the new millenium", which will meet to renowned investigators, directors and critics, cubans and foreigns, which by means of post, conferences and debates will permit to investigate in the future to this marvelous and complex art.

Also will provide representation spaces to puppet grouping more relevant, whether national or foreign companies interested in present their job in the event.

To presentation of the post will be considered the followings requirements :

a) To send the abstracts before february 15 of 1998.

b) 20 minuts to expose and debate.

c) Technical rquirements relation.

d) If it´s posible, a copy of post.

e) If the job have been published, to send information about this.

The interested to impart Panels, Conferences or Debates around the one especific subject, should comunicate it before the date of the event and to send the technical requirements.

The acts to play shoulb be enable to present in flexible spaces and Theatre Halls, with the maxim duration of 60 minutes and the minimum technical requirements, this will be sended too before february 15 of 1998.

Will be offered spaces dedicated to expositions (puppets, designs, posters, photos and specialized publication), the same way the Workshop will have got book´s sell and promotion, magazines and specialized materials. During the event will be homaged institutions, grouping and relevant personalities. This Workshop just will be dedicated to the cuban puppet actress Xiomara Palacios (NGT) and the april 1st. day will be the Tribute Journey to Javier Villafañe, in the first aniversary of his death. Will take place too the IIth National Prize of Dramatic Art, auspiced by our institution.

Requirements

Each participant should pay 50 dolars at time to acreditation. The credential guarantee the participation in the oficial activities of the event.

LETTER OF CONVOCATION TO THE NATIONAL PRIZE OF DRAMATIC ART "PAPALOTE THEATRE 1998". (Second time).

Papalote Theatre convoke to the National Prize of Dramatic Art "Papalote Theatre 1998", when is going to take place the Third International Workshop of Puppet Theatre, from March 27 to April 10th, 1998. This workshop also wants to stimulate the writting of puppets dramatic texts for children and adults, so limited in the contemporaneous theatre panorama.

BASIS .

All cubans and foraigns playwrights who lives or not in the country , can participate, though the Prize has a National character.

Works that has been performed or published before, not even partially,will be accepted. Nor can be rewarded in similar concourses in Cuba or in foreign countries, whish has to be clear by the author by a juridical declaration .

Themes are free .

The jury of the National Prize of Dramatic Art will be compose by pretigious personalities invited to the III International Puppet Workshop.

Works must be presented typewritted, two spaces and in paged paper with the original and three copies.

The jury will session during the celebration of the event and will give their judgement that can not be lowered, the 10th of April, the day of the clausure.

The prize consist in publishing the work selected. .The works that doesn´t reach a prize will increase the funds of the Puppet Information Center of the Papalote group.

And unique prize will be give and the mention the jury estimate.

PROFESSORS OF THE INTERNATIONAL PUPPET´S THEATRE WORKSHOP

RENE FERNANDEZ SANTANA

General and artistic Director of Papalote Theatre. He is a memmber of the Expert Group of the National Counceel of the Superior Institute of Scenic Art in Havana. Scene director, playwright, choreograph and designer. He is considered between the principals personality of the Cuban Theatre Movement for children. Have received many awards, distinctions and recognitions. Has imparted workshops in Andalucia and as artistic director in Zaragoza, Spain. Have given conferences in Sweden and Colombia. Owns the National Order of the Cuban Culture.

FREDDY ARTILES

Distinguish playwright, investigator and professor of Art Superior Institute in Havana. He is considered one of the most important investigator of the Puppet Theatre for children in Cuba. He is a member of the Expert Group of the National Counceel for Scenic Art. Had given workshops of Dramatic Art in different states of Mexico. Written and published many books in which are found dramatic, theorical and antologics works.

ZENEN CALERO MEDINA

General designer of Papalotes´s group. Had colaborated with different Theatres of our country and in the children redaction of the Cuban TV. Had depveloped a particular style of recreation recognized nationally and internationally, and had given to him many awards of scenics designs. Had expose in Spain, Czechoslovakia, Colombia and Sweeden. Had imparted workshops in Spain and Mexico. It´s considered one of the best theatre designers for children in the country. Owns the National Cuture Order. Had given designer classes in the Art Superior Institute in Havana.
