E v e n t s a n d F e s t i v a l s · I International Colloquium "Emilio Bacardí" In Memoriam
I INTERNATIONAL COLLOQUIUM "EMILIO BACARDÍ" IN MEMORIAM Date: February 10th to 12th. Event which takes place on occasion of Emilio Bacardí Museum Centennial. It is dedicated to museologists, specialists on heritage preservation and restoration. 5 HANDICRAFTS INTERNATIONAL FAIR. FIART Date: February 14th to 23rd. FIART is a handicraft trade fair where Cuban and foreign handicraftsmen take part. Artistic creation workshops, collateral expositions will be made. Prizes for the Best Cuban Work and for the Best International, will be granted, as well as another International Award, conferred by the UNESCO. 5 HUMOUR BIENNIAL Date: March 28th to April 4th. Competitive event which convokes, national and internationally, to graphic humor makers. Workshops on humour, lectures and collateral expositions take place. 5 II INTERNATIONAL ENCOUNTER OF GUITAR PROFESSORS AND STUDENTS. II INTERNATIONAL CONTEST FOR GUITAR STUDENTS Date: April - May, l999. Suitable event for demonstrating the development reached by Cuban guitar playing on its teaching field, and to interchange experiences with professors and students from participant countries. Besides, workshops, lectures, and magistral classes on guitar teaching technique and methodology will be delivered. 5 "LA HUELLA DE ESPAÑA" ("SPAIN’S IMPRINT") FESTIVAL, 1999 Date : April Hispanic roots on Cuban culture are reflected on this event, from a great fiesta, in which music, dance and theatre groups and soloists from Cuba and Spain take part. 5 INTERNATIONAL DISC FAIR "CUBADISCO" Date: April 30th to March 4th. Expo-selling of works produced by Cuban and foreign discographic houses. Performances by the most outstanding Cuban musical groups are included . Besides, a colloquium on discographic production and its commercialization will also take place. 5 II ENCOUNTER ON MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY DANCE SCHOOLS. I CONTEST OF STUDENTS OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY DANCE SCHOOLS Date: June 1999. Experiences interchange and widening of knowledge on modern and contemporary dance expressions from several world regions. Besides the contest, workshops, lectures and magistral classes on contemporary and modern dance will be hold. 5 I INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS "CULTURE AND DEVELOPMENT" Date: June 7th to 11th. Its aims are: to ease experience interchange on practical and theoretical aspects concerning to culture and development relation, and on cultural development contemporary projection; to reach the right evaluation of interaction between culture and development; to consolidate work within the Ibero American network and spread it towards the international scope; to propitiate international cultural cooperation through its insertion within international entities and organisms programs; to appreciate and contrast advancements reached from an effective dialogue culture and circulation of ideas which spread human existence integrally developed . So this event calls for researchers, artists, creators, professors, specialists and groups, institutions and entities involved on cultural processes. 5 CONCERT BANDS INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL Date: June 8th to 13th Event which retakes an old tradition and makes possible the professional interchange of Cuban and foreign concert bands. 5 "BOLEROS DE ORO" ("GOLDEN BOLEROS") INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL Date: June 17th to 27th. Dedicated to Venezuela. Outstanding interpreters, composers, researchers and lovers of this musical genre. The most prestigious bolero singers from Cuba, Latin America and the Caribbean will be on the stage of "Mella", "Nacional" and "América" Theaters. 5 THEATRE AND DANCE ELSINOR FESTIVAL Date: June 25th to July 5th . "Elsinor" presents the diploma works from Performing Arts Faculty, which also takes place in the High Studies Art Faculty as well as in the main city theaters. It calls for those interested on produce their artistic, research, and teaching proposals on theatre and dance arts. The leading theme will be : "Ernest Hemingway: Man of his time, presence and transcendence at the end of the millennium". 5 CARIBBEAN CULTURE FESTIVAL Date: July 3rd to 9th. Also known as "Fiesta del Fuego", this event gathers all cultural manifestations and the scientific and literary ongoing of the peoples from the region. 5 POPULAR MUSIC INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL "BENNY MORÉ" Date: August 21st to 24th . Panorama of the Cuban popular music and its most outstanding interpreters. Cuban and foreign orchestras takes part and the figure of Benny More is raised. 5 INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL "MATAMOROS SON" Date: September Event to promote the values and roots on one of the most genuine expression of Cuban music: the son, its influence on rhythms that derive from it, as well as its transcendence on foreign lands. "Wemilere" takes place in Guanabacoa institutions, neighborhoods and parks. 5 CHOIR INTENATIONAL FESTIVAL Date: November 29th to December 6th. The aim of this event is to preserve the choir tradition of the Eastern region of Cuba and stimulate choir music creation. It offers to the visitors the highest quality reached by the Cuban choirs. The event includes concerts, choir workshops choir rounds, visits to the Santiago Orfeón House, among other activities. 5 FIESTA A LA GUANTANAMERA. (GUANTANAMERA STYLE FIESTA) Date: December 14th to 18th. Colloquium : "From Where the Sun Rises", whose thematics are related to religious syncretism, workshops, concerts, galas, conferences, tour along the historical center of Guantánamo, visit to the ruins of the French coffee plantations and to the Stone Zoo. 5 THIRD MILLENNIUM: INTEGRATION OR HEGEMONY? The Center of Studies about Martí, under the auspices of prestigious institutions, convokes to the International Colloquy "Third Millennium: Integration or Hegemony?" that will be held in Havana, September 30th through October 2nd of 1999, on the occasion of the 110 anniversary of the First Panamerican Conference, and of the José Martí calling to achieve definitely the Latin American independence and the equilibrium of the world. From the wide view of the most universal Cuban, a multi-dimensional debate about the opportunities and challenges of the integrating processes planned since the XIX century, which are in process and the created facing the Third Millennium. Outstanding sociologists, historians, economists, philosophers, jurists, politicians and specialists of the most diverse spheres of culture, will exchange reflections in topics like: - Panamericanism from Martí-like and historical points of view: - Integration and developemnt; Cultural identity and globalization; Autodetermination and New World Order. Scientific Secretary: Dr. Rolando González Patricio. 5 INTERNATIONAL COLLOQUIUM "LA EDAD DE ORO BEFORE THE NEW CENTURY" On the occasion of commemorating the 110 Anniversary of the first apparition of La Edad de Oro magazine in the summer of 1999, the Center of Studies about Martí, under the auspices of prestigious institutions, convokes to the International Colloquy "La Edad de Oro before de New Century", that will be held in Havana in July 20th through 22nd of 1999, in order to analyzing and reevaluating this project on Martí at the break of the new century, and valuing the present literary production for children and young people, when the fundamental messages of dignity, liberty, tenderness and education of that magazine are still in force. The colloquy will consist on the presentation of reports, as well as the development of lectures, round tables and other activities. The topics will be about the own values and characteristics of La Edad de Oro and its reception for over a century, making emphasis in its location within the literature for children and young people of his time and the present time, with the problems, specifications and perspectives before the arrival of a new century.
